About Us

Behind the Name
A precipice is a steep cliff on a mountain, and to be at the precipice of something means to be at the edge of disaster or failure.
We chose this name for two reasons:
- It encapsulates the type of clients we are passionate about supporting– mountain athletes, those who have big goals for improving their health and fitness, and those coming back from an injury
- When you’re aiming for big fitness and performance goals, you’re often pushing your limits and working within a narrower margin for success. You’re at the precipice. Improper fueling puts you at major risk for injury or failure, while good nutrition supports you in successfully achieving your goals.
Treatment Philosophy
We believe that nutrition should be:
- Individualized: We all have different health histories, food preferences, goals, access to resources (money, time, food, cooking equipment, etc.), and more. This means that plans need to be different to be effective.
- Evidence-based: We aren’t recommending diets, tests, or lifestyle changes that aren’t supported by research. We use objective data and tests to help inform decision-making throughout course of care.
- Sustainable: Your long-term health and success are our priorities. We aren’t recommending unsustainable low calorie diets, cutting out food groups, or adding long and complicated cooking to your routine. We want this to be a lifestyle change you want to continue even after your care is finished and goals are met.
- Inclusive: Our practice supports and works with bodies of all shapes and sizes. We believe that health means a lot more than just a number on the scale, and that all foods can fit into a healthy diet.
Ultimately, our goals are to educate and create behavior change. This takes time, however. To reflect this, we primarily offer subscriptions instead of individual sessions. This gives you the time to build new habits while having consistent access to professional support.

Do you only work with athletes?
Yes and no. We consider everyone to be an athlete because healthy aging is a sport 😉 But if you don’t have specific athletic goals and are only looking to get healthier, then we are here to support you! Shannon has experience working with eating disorders, elderly, families, picky eaters, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and kidney disease.
Do you provide physical therapy too?
We don’t provide physical therapy, but we build nutrition plans around PT care plans and will work with your physical therapist to ensure you are progressing well throughout treatment. We also can create training programs to complement your physical therapy or continue building fitness after your discharge from PT.
Do you take insurance?
We operate on a cash-based, out-of-network model, so we do not currently accept healthcare insurance. For potential reimbursement, you have the option to self-claim through your insurance using a claim form available on your insurance provider’s website, along with the requisite details from a superbill provided by us. The extent of reimbursement or contribution towards your deductible is contingent upon your specific insurance plan. To ensure a smooth process, we recommend reaching out to your insurance provider before your initial appointment to clarify your out-of-network benefits and confirm any additional prerequisites.
